Nigel Sense – refreshing sense of humour

By | December 7, 2015

Admittedly, sometimes art is taken a bit too seriously.  So if you like your art with a bit of humour (and Australian humour!), this latest solo exhibition by Nigel Sense at Brisbane Modern Art Gallery will be an enjoyable experience for you.

Nigel’s unapologetic style is rooted in male identity, guys having ‘stuff’ and just being themselves in everyday settings. Depicting everyday thoughts and events, his paintings appeal to a wide range of audiences enticed by his sense of honesty and his unpretentious humour.

An admirer of pop art, Nigel sees things as they are. Advised early in his career to “paint what he knows,” he effortlessly inserts some urban blunt into his work. His down-to-earth sense of humour will make you look at the paintings again once you read their titles too! “God my hair looks good today”, “Left the toilet seat up again”, “10 am drunk at the races,” and “I didn’t know she was your sister” are just a few one-liner titles that leave you wanting more.

So if you’re after some unpretentious art and good humour, have the sense to see Nigel’s solo exhibition. It is a unique opportunity in Brisbane that inspires curiosity!

This exhibition runs until 12 December, Brisbane Modern Art Gallery (Fortitude Valley)
